Kingham Family History
Descendants of Edward Kingham
Notes
1. Edward Kingham
*In the marriage record of Edward with Sarah Cloyton, married
at Cranfield 20.2.1709 it notes that Edward was from Cranfield but no birth
could be found.
*An earlier Kingham marriage in Cranfield was William Kingham of North
Crawley, Bucks marrying Elizabeth Basterfield on 9.12.1655.
*Although there is no direct link it would seem that James (died 1712)
and John (died 1715) both of Lidlington were brothers of Edward.
*The earliest record of Kinghams in Lidlington is William and Martha
nee Lyne who married in 19. June.1627 at Henlow. They had two daughters,
Martha (bpt 24.8.1628) and Mary (bpt 1630). However, Henlow is some distance
form Lidlington (over 15 miles) and there is nothing to explain the move.
*There were a number of William Kinghams of from North Crawley. The
earliest William yet found is William born in 1571 in Aston Clinton.
*Aston Clinton also has the earliest record of a Kingham: Thomas born
circa 1520.
*There are also Kinghams in North Crawley which I have found on the
net: one family is William 1618-1670; he had a son Edward 1644-1705 who
married Elizabeth Newman; they had children Edward 1674-1775 and William
1673-?
Edward married another Elizabeth and they had the following children
Elizabeth 1702-? Sarah 1700-1750; Lydia 1704-5; Elizabeth 1703; Mary 1707;
Edward 1709; Edward 1710 and Issac 1713-1717.
*The greatest early concentration of Kinghams is in the Aston Clinton/Tring
area. Others are located in Wendover and Princes Risborough which suggests
the family originated from this central part of Bucks and then perhaps
migrated northwards to North Crawley and then over the county border to
Bedfordshire.
*It seems likely as well that another group also moved to Eversholt
in Bedfordshire in the latter half of the 16th century.
*The naming system of the families show that the Eversholt group and
the Lidlington et al group were seperate: the latter having Edward, James,
Mary and Ann as consistent forenames, whereas in Eversholt, there was Richard
and Henry.
